Radiology, or x-rays as they are commonly called, is an invaluable tool in the diagnosis of disease as it allows us to see what we cannot from the outside. Radiology may be used alone or in conjunction with other diagnostic procedures to provide a diagnosis, and guide us in choosing the appropriate treatment for your pet. Many orthopaedic, heart or abdominal concerns are diagnosed by X-ray.
The key to producing a good quality radiograph is largely dependant on a still patient, and while we can normally perform routine radiographs on most patients, occasionally some patients may require sedation. If sedation is required for your pet, the veterinarian will discuss which type of sedation would be most beneficial and appropriate for your pet.
